M. G. Vassanji, with 13 books to his credit, is significant, not merely because he is prolific, but also due to the diversity of his diasporic experience. With the rising focus on diaspora and the literature, emerging from its context, as an alternative reading of history, it would be interesting to explore Vassanjis texts and contexts, to understand what they have to offer. Spanning across continents, his writing becomes an interesting documentation of both place and displacement and the resultant issues of identity and home, among others. Both his fiction and nonfiction take the readers through routes, he has literally and metaphorically travelled, to deliberating on roots, both as longing and belonging.
